For those people, not on facebook:

I've been debating posting this for the NOVA Firefly peeps, because there is so little context and so much crazy...But I think it's worth it, for the few non-butt-kissy, rational responses she let slip through, that actually DO give some food for thought. cool

Read only if you have time for massive amounts of WTF?!/brainhurt mixed with a point or two. There are nuggets of gold to be panned in the responses.

"lavenderherring" on page 3 is my favorite.

If you feel you can deal, put on your golashes and prepare to wade through some radical feminist wank.

Oh, and because of all the brainhurt/WTF?! here's a big dose of funny. biggrin

Ouchouchouch! But totally agree that there are a few points worth thinking about. Still the kneejerk reaction is offputting, since we "get it"

good answer!

An interesting read. The writer seems so angry and sans sense of humor, poor thing. None of her points resonated with me, and I'm all about looking at things in new ways. I think she needs to get off the computer and travel a bit- expand her horizons.

um, oh my.

It makes me shudder as to what this person thinks is a good show.
The reall brain hurt is how many comments were agreeing to this.
Unfortunately I have run into people that would agree with them.

Only had time to skim the article, but I feel sad for the writer and her (I'm assuming her) very narrow definition of feminism. I definitely consider myself a feminist. And although there are moments in the series that I would agree are not particularly empowering to women, I would also counter that there are moments in life that are not particularly empowering to women. Everything, every moment, every word of dialogue doesn't have to be a treatise to feminism. Every character doesn't have to be Gertrude Stein in drag. You have to look at the big picture and you have to keep the setting in mind as well and stop taking everything at face value.

I'm always open to viewpoints that differ from my own--it usually serves to make my own opinions stronger--and allecto has every right to her own interpretation. But the things she said about Kai were completely uncalled for. Kai has every right to beat allecto's ass.

Read the funny, but by the time I got to it head hurt too much, for it to be more than an alternate reality check.
